Education and learning are never wasted.
Years ago - 1983 I'm talking about - I did a B. Journ degree because I love words, writing and chat shows like Parky and Top Gear. But after a short internship at The Cape Times newspaper, I realized you don't need a degree to be a good journo, and that the actual coalface wasn't what I thought it would be.
So I became an Industrial Psychologist and flash forward 30 something years of being a resource to SME business owners and helping them and their businesses to become the best they can be, and I didn't and haven't given journalism a second thought for decades.
Then, last year, I wrote and published my first book (on Amazon and Audible), and I've just had my second one accepted for publication (it's due out later this year). And then today, I was "on the chat show sofa" interviewing the first of my local business-owning guests - Nicola Sheard from Tropic Skincare and Unique Lades networking - on how she did it. It's for my YouTube series entitled If They Can, You Can which will feature those who've made a success of business owning and give insight into their challenges, wins and lessons. Real people with real stories and real solutions we can all learn from.
Embarking on this project has put me right back in touch with my "closet journo self" and something I have always loved but thought had bypassed me forever. That degree of old and my long-ago experience are now needed and topical. Who'd have thunk it?
Watch out for the interview link....coming shortly....and if you'd like to feature on my sofa because you've got an entrepreneurial tale worth telling....why not email me on hello@buildingbestbusiness.com ?
