As social beings in this current age of tech. Where it just isn’t until it’s on social media; the pressure to be and be seen to be keeping up with – well…everyone – is huge and real.
The Choir of external influences is deafening
The temptation too, to listen to a veritable choir of often conflicting advice – on again…just about anything – is also huge. And with this flood immersing, surrounding and coming at us, does it help or hinder us when it comes to building our best businesses?
Well, in short, it’s both
Re-opening, re-branding, re-launching, re-visiting, re-covering or re-positioning us and our business to make enough to fund life after the global wallops of the last few years isn’t for the fainthearted.
Neither is keeping our team optimized, staying profitable and building for the long term in these current tough trading times. It all takes the sort of hard, smart, consistent work that could, quite frankly, do with a bit of help.
- Punchy podcasts
- Useful Google stats we could never afford to compile ourselves
- Compelling industry information at the push of a button
- Competitive intel at our fingertips
- Helpful advice on our screens
- Real how-to resources just an Amazon delivery away, and inspiring stories...
can be really great ways to access said help.
A million voices - but which one should you listen to?
Social media and online are those places where everyone is beavering to create or curate oftentimes a shiner version than reality warrants.
And would we on the other side of the screen know the difference?
Often not.
Perfect feeds and plandid (planned not actually candid!) snapshots can leave us feeling despondent, overwhelmed, negative and depressed at how far we have to go. How much we don’t know, and how far ahead of us everyone else is. But they aren’t necessarily truth, fact or relevant to us if we could know the context.
Unless we intentionally galvanize these resources around the plumb lines of where WE want to go, what success means for US, what WE need to build and why and stay selective.
We can find ourselves lending our eyes, ears, brains and mental well-being to being...
- Distracted not motivated
- Discombobulated and not energized
- Lost not led by everything “out there”
So, let’s use all that good stuff that’s out there by all means, but let’s use it to augment not dictate our path, our course and our end-in-mind goals.
Let’s let it inform, but not define us. Let’s continue to be selective, test the validity for ourselves, look for the video not the snapshots, remember that true isn’t the same as truth and just because everyone seems to be doing it, doesn’t make it right for us.
